Check an ERC-20’s Manta Bridge support before you send

1 contract address determines whether an ERC-20 can use Manta Bridge: the bridge must support that specific token on the selected route. The ticker and the fact that a token exists on Manta Pacific do not prove it can be deposited from Ethereum. Check the asset in the bridge before you approve or send anything.

Bridges work with specific assets and routes. For an ERC-20 deposit, you typically approve a bridge contract to spend tokens on Ethereum, then submit the deposit; the destination network credits a corresponding token representation. To understand the two-way transfer steps, see planning Manta Bridge deposits and withdrawals.

How can you tell if your ERC-20 is supported?

Select Ethereum as the source and Manta Pacific as the destination, then check whether the asset appears in the bridge’s token selector. Search by the token name or ticker, but verify the contract address too: unrelated tokens can share a ticker, and a familiar name alone is not enough to identify the asset.

If the token does not appear, treat it as unsupported on that route. A token list for Manta Pacific may show assets that exist on the network, including tokens brought over by other routes. That does not mean the canonical bridge accepts each one from Ethereum or can return it through the same path.

What changes when a token crosses the bridge?

A bridge deposit is a transfer between networks, not a swap. The destination balance is generally the mapped representation of the source token, with its own contract address on Manta Pacific. Check that address and the token’s decimals before using it in another app, especially if the app requires you to add the token manually.

Support can also depend on the direction. A token may be available for Ethereum-to-Manta deposits but have different withdrawal steps or requirements on the way back. Confirm both directions if you expect to return the asset to Ethereum; do not assume that a visible deposit option guarantees an immediate or identical reverse route.

What should you check before approving a deposit?

Confirm the asset and route in the bridge interface before signing. For an ERC-20, the wallet may ask you to approve the bridge contract first; approval grants permission to spend tokens, while the deposit transaction actually starts the transfer.

  • Match the Ethereum contract address, not just the ticker.
  • Confirm the destination is Manta Pacific and check the token representation that will arrive.
  • Review the allowance amount and keep enough ETH for Ethereum approval and deposit fees.
  • Check the withdrawal route and any exit delay before sending an amount you may need back soon.

If the correct token is not listed, pause and verify support through the bridge’s own interface or documentation before proceeding. Do not substitute a similarly named asset or assume that importing a token into a wallet makes it bridgeable.

The practical test is simple: the exact source contract must be offered for the exact route you want, and you should know what token arrives and how you can withdraw it. If those details are missing, wait to bridge until you can verify them.
