Fund the chain where the NFT lives

1 destination chain determines how you move funds for an ecosystem NFT: transfer usable funds to the network where its marketplace or mint runs. That is the network your wallet must use when you pay.

Funds on the wrong chain can leave you unable to complete the purchase.

Which chain should you fund for an ecosystem NFT?

Fund the chain where the NFT’s marketplace or mint contract operates. Check the project’s official details for the network and the payment tokens it accepts; a project’s broader ecosystem may span several chains, but a particular NFT sale happens on one of them.

Your wallet needs to support that network, and the funds must arrive at an address you control there. A token with the same ticker on another chain may be a different asset or representation, so check the network and token details, not just the name.

How do you move funds across chains?

First, identify what you will need on the destination chain: the payment asset and a little of its native token for network fees. Then choose a bridge route from the chain where your funds are now. Routes can move the same asset across chains or swap it for a different asset along the way; mayan bridge has a fuller explanation of that distinction.

Before confirming, compare the amount you will receive with what the NFT costs and what you need for fees. A route may charge fees, take time to complete, or quote a minimum output when the transfer includes a swap. The exact steps depend on the bridge and the chains involved.

Use the wallet address you intend to use for the NFT, and check these details on the transfer screen:

  • Source and destination networks
  • Asset sent and asset expected on arrival
  • Estimated amount after fees and any swap
  • Destination address and estimated completion time

What should you check before buying the NFT?

After the transfer completes, switch your wallet to the destination chain and confirm that the expected asset arrived. Make sure you also have enough of that chain’s native token to pay transaction fees; having the purchase amount alone may not be enough.

Then open the project’s official marketplace or mint page and verify the collection and network before connecting your wallet. A bridge transfer moves funds, but it does not buy or mint the NFT for you. You still need to submit a separate transaction on the destination chain.

For most buyers, the simplest route is one that delivers the payment asset the sale accepts and leaves enough for fees, even if another route looks cheaper at first. Check the final amount and destination carefully before you sign; once a cross-chain transfer is underway, fixing a wrong network or address may not be straightforward.
