How to fund a position close on another network
To close a crypto position on another network, move the right asset and enough destination gas first, then verify the route, fees and final transaction before signing.

Two balances usually matter when you close a crypto position on another network: the asset you need to repay or sell, and the network’s gas token to pay for transactions. First move the assets you need to the network where the position can be closed.
Funds that arrive without usable gas can leave you unable to submit the transaction that closes your position. Plan for both the position’s requirements and the cost of acting on the destination network.
What do you need to move before closing a position?
Check the position’s rules before moving funds: identify the network, the asset you must repay or sell, and any collateral or minimum balance the protocol requires. A lending position may need its debt repaid before collateral can be withdrawn, while a leveraged trade may have a separate close action.
Then check which token pays transaction fees on the destination network. Some services can include or arrange gas as part of a transfer, but you should confirm that the route supports your destination and the action you plan to take. For a fuller account of how funds can arrive without gas to spend, see this explanation of ParaSwap and destination gas.
How do you move funds to the destination network?
You can use a bridge to transfer tokens between networks, or a cross-chain swap route that transfers one asset and delivers another. A bridge may leave you with the same token on the destination network; a swap route may exchange it along the way. Compare the asset you will receive, the quoted amount, fees, and whether destination gas is included.
Before signing, verify the source and destination networks, token addresses, amount, and destination wallet. A token with the same name can exist at different addresses, and a transfer to the wrong network or address may not be recoverable. Start with a small transfer if you have not used that route before and the fees make it practical.
- Confirm the position can be closed on the destination network.
- Move the required repayment, sale, or collateral asset.
- Keep or receive enough of the destination gas token for the close and any follow-up transaction.
- Check the received balance on the destination network before interacting with the position.
How much destination gas should you leave?
Leave enough for the close action and any transaction that must follow it, such as repaying debt before withdrawing collateral. The required amount depends on the network, current demand, and the number and complexity of transactions; a displayed estimate can change before you submit.
If the route delivers no gas, arrange a small amount of the network’s gas token separately before moving the larger balance, or choose a route that explicitly supports gas delivery. Don’t assume that a token balance itself can pay the network fee.
What should you check before closing the position?
Once funds arrive, check the destination network and token balance in your wallet, then review the protocol’s close or repay screen. Confirm the amount, expected result, and any remaining debt or collateral before signing.
The practical rule is simple: move the asset needed to close, and make sure you can pay for the transaction that uses it. A successful transfer gets funds to the network; it does not, by itself, close the position.
