Mesh and Visa plan crypto payments across 175 million locations

175 million merchant locations could become reachable from crypto and stablecoin balances under a partnership announced by Mesh and Visa on October 19. That is the size of Visa’s reported network across more than 200 countries and territories, according to Mesh’s announcement. For you, the proposed change is paying from balances in a wallet app without first moving funds to a separate card.

How would paying from a wallet balance work?

A participating wallet or platform would connect to Mesh, which would handle transaction funding and conversion, the companies said. A Visa credential would be provisioned behind the scenes; you could then tap at a contactless terminal or pay online, while the merchant receives a standard payment.

Mesh says users would not need to sell, transfer or preload funds before checkout. Its system would orchestrate payment across supported crypto, stablecoin and fiat balances. The announcement does not specify which assets or conversion rates will be supported.

Who can use it, and when?

The service is intended for users of participating wallet apps and platforms, which would connect through Mesh rather than build their own card programs. Mesh says it will handle onboarding and identity checks, known as KYC. It has not named the first platforms that will offer the service.

Availability, supported devices and launch timing remain unannounced, according to The Block’s report. So the partnership describes a planned payment route; it does not mean the feature is already available in your wallet.

What changes for merchants?

Merchants would use their existing Visa acceptance setup, with no new checkout hardware or workflow changes, Mesh said. That puts the conversion work between the wallet balance and the Visa payment rather than at the checkout counter.

The proposed reach is broad, but access depends on wallet providers joining the service and the rollout details still to come. Until Mesh and Visa identify participating platforms and supported balances, you cannot tell whether your wallet will be included or what paying this way will cost.
