Prepare your wallet before a cross-chain swap

Check both networks, keep gas funds on the source chain, and review the token approval before you confirm a cross-chain swap from your wallet.

Prepare your wallet before a cross-chain swap

2 network checks prepare your wallet for a cross-chain swap: confirm the source chain and the destination chain before you approve anything. Those are the two networks the swap moves value between, and your wallet must be ready to use each one.

A correct token and destination matter only if the wallet can complete both sides of the transaction.

Which networks and tokens should you check?

Check the sending network, the token you plan to swap, and the network where you want to receive funds. A token with the same name or ticker can exist on several chains, so compare the network and token details shown in the swap flow with the ones in your wallet.

Make sure your wallet can switch to both networks. If you want more detail on how a swap flow connects those steps, quickswap is a fuller editorial reference. Your wallet may show a destination token before it appears in the token list; that does not by itself mean the swap failed.

How much gas should you keep in your wallet?

Keep the source network’s native token in the wallet that will send the swap. It pays the network fee for the transaction that starts the swap, and the token you are swapping may not be usable for that fee.

The destination may also require its native token for later actions, such as sending or swapping the funds you receive. Some swap routes account for a destination fee, while others leave you to fund it separately. Check the quote and route details so you know what will arrive and what you may need for your next transaction.

  • Keep enough source-chain gas for the swap transaction.
  • Check whether the route deducts fees from the amount you receive.
  • Consider how you will pay for a follow-up transaction on the destination chain.
  • Confirm any required destination address details, such as a memo or tag.

What should you review before approving?

Read the quote for the token you will receive, the estimated fees, and any minimum amount or time limit shown. Cross-chain routes can depend on transactions on more than one network, so the final amount can differ from the initial estimate if conditions change while the route completes.

Check the spender and requested token allowance in your wallet. An allowance lets a contract move a specified token amount; approve only the amount and contract shown for the swap you intend to make. If the wallet or swap page asks you to connect again, verify the site address and request before signing.

Finally, verify the receiving address and network. A correct address on the wrong network may not receive funds as expected, and some destinations require extra details. Once those checks are done, keep the wallet available until the route reports completion and the funds appear on the destination chain.
